We Aren't in Kansas Anymore!

Payola comes to DC! Kansas City Red's brother is in town. He is here on business selling Flux Capacitors. We had dinner at the 'Fish' as 2 Tall Jones enviously admired us having dinner with KCR's 'cuter' brother. We have to get him home now because people go to bed early in Kansas.

Happy Birthday BK DM!!

Happy Birthday BK DM!!! What a fantastic day! You are one year closer to your girlfriend and death (funny how those things work out). I know you are sad that you are a year older. But I am happy that you are my friend so I wish you many more happy useless years of life. I played this song just for you ;-)...Slow Skate!!!

"What is the point of it all"....BK DM on his B-Day
"There is no point. Get over it!!"...Kansas City Red in response.

Pavlov's Bitch

So we have been home for an hour with only one dog present who is content with our presence. So we give 'T' a well deserved milkbone. This Bitch (pictured above) hears the word 'treat' and wakes from the dead to get in on the action. When she finished her undeserved snack in her Throne she would turn up her nose at us and go upstairs. We whispered the word 'Treat' after she settled in again and she came barreling down the stairs for another round. We kept whispering "Treat" and she kept running down the stairs. It was funny for like 5 times and then I realized how spoiled she was so I grew tired of her and went to bed. At least T got lots of treats out of it.

Field Trip to The 703

Just crossed the bridge to get lunch with Hellen Bed and RJ. We picked up The District and Mary Rice. Hellen and RJ wanted to get back in touch with their roots so we took a detour to get ham salad.

Man Down!

Pretty Boy Floyd is KO'd. His poor ladyfriend is stuck here politely putting up with our craziness acting like we are normal. What a sweetheart. Oh wait see ChimneyFall.

Happy Easter!!

Christ has Risen Ya'll. And we are celebrating the joy of His Resurrection with a potluck Easter Dinner at 1429. DJ Skittles roasted leg of lamb and made mac and cheeses. Sister Disco did the ham and I made 2 Time Grocery Store Quiche (Yes, there is a story there). Plenty of food to be had and basketball to be watched. (My bracket has gone to sh*t btw. But Duke lost so who cares) Missing The District and Hellen Bed. Hoping that S&M will make a guest appearance.
Can't wait to eat. I think my quiche will make the A-List, then again it's a Paula Deen recipe so it may be B-minus.

Pit Stop! Yum-O!

This is nobodys corned beef and cabbage, but it's damn good eats. See you at Solly's now that I have refueled.

Finally!

The Birthday Boy has arrived. Thank St Patrick cause it would have been a bloody shame to drink without him. Oh wait I started already.

Happy Birthday Dancin'! Where You At?

We are having a great time at Dancin's Birthday Party. You all should join us. If you can find him, will you please bring the guest of honor?

Happy St. Patrick's Day

The Chimney's are on their way. Sister Disco and I wisely filled our bellies with Murphy's Pie aka Beef Stew and tried to be good by only having a beer because we have a long day ahead of us. But our lovely barender just sent us on our way by giving us two shots of Jameson's. We are in trouble.

$7 What?

This is at the 17th Street Cafe. The menu offers unlimited mimosas for an extra 7 bucks with your entree. Something is telling me that this place might run out of champers this Palm Sunday. Hosannah!!

Did I mention that it's Spring Break? Consider yourselves warned...

Dinner with Friends

Over the past few weeks, I have had the great pleasure of spending my nights off at friends dinner parties. The first party was about 3 weeks ago when Shatterproof initiated the tradition because he wanted to show off his phat new crib.
He made fantastic fajitas and as an added surprise he invited the Southern Belles over as well.

The Southern Belles returned the favor the next week by preparing a succulent pot roast and 'bixits' as Mr. Smiley Southern Belle calls them.

This week I had the distinct honor to spend the evening in Deep Shaw with Kansas City Chief and Blackjack.

The starter was KCC's Famous Guacamole and chips, he really has a knack for that stuff.
Now, KCC knows mine and Blackjack's deep love for all things Chorizo, so he researched the interweb for recipes that featured the savory, spicy treat. He found a Brazilian Dish called Feijoada that is traditionally served with beef tongue, but he wisely made a substitution with stewed beef and he cut out about an hour or twos worth of cooking by doing so. The Brazilian stew was garnished with an orange and accompanied by a salad with buttery green and red leaf lettuce, hearts of palm, tomato, avocado and buffalo mozzarella cheese. I'm not a big salad eater, but I went for seconds with this one.
We polished off our dinner and in lieu of desserts, since we are not big sweet eaters, had after dinner cocktails. I'm sure I don't have to tell you what those consisted of.

All in all it was a great evening. I really enjoy my time with my friends and I really enjoy hanging out with them on their turf and not always on a barstool. Thanks to all of you who invite me into your lovely homes. I know this post won't get me a ticket to the A-List Gay's Lavish Dinner Parties, but I have a damn good time dining with the C-Listers.

Now that I think about it, someone has been promising me a Muffaleta party. Hint. Hint.

Obrigado eu te amo amigos!!!

Everybody's A Critic Corner

Once again folks, it's time for another installation of EACC where I put my very valuable two cents in about restaurants in the area. This week's restaurant is Ulah Bistro. Owned by one of the investors of Tunnicliff's and Stoney's, a neighborhood favorite.

I busted in the door at 8 o'clock on a Friday night, I told the host that I am meeting a large group and we may be anywhere from 5 to 10 people. Now, any other place in this gawd forsaken city would look at me like was a non-tipping intern from The Hill, but they were super nice about it and gave us a table before we were a complete party. It turned out to be 8 of us.

Attendees: Mary Rice, Dags, The District, Hellen Bed, Yours Truly, Mango, His friend from 'round the block and DJ Skittles.

It is purports to be an American Bistro, whatever that means. The appetizer menu was a bit seafood heavy, with crabcakes, mussels and such and they threw us meat lovers a bone with chicken wings; I hate chicken wings (I will thank you now to spare the stereotypic jokes please). They offered entree salads, brick-oven pizza, sandwiches and standard entrees. We skipped the apps and went straight to the main courses.

Mary Rice got the Marghrita pizza - he liked it
Dags got a chicken salad, I think it was a Greek Chicken Salad
The District and Mango chose the Mojito Chicken with verde risotto. They enjoyed the chicken but the risotto is not as good as it sounds. It was actually sticky white rice with some cilantro mixed in.
Hellen and Mango's friend from 'round the block ordered the Turkey Melt they liked it, despite the soggy bread.
DJ Skittles and I ordered the NY Strip, which was cooked to perfection, a seemingly very hard task to accomplish in this city.

The decor is modern and a bit fancy for U Street. I like it. There is a small bar downstairs and they have an upstairs which they offered to show us, but we took a raincheck. The price was reasonable 8 of us ate and had a cocktail for $200. Service was a bit slow but I am not going to hold that against them since they had only been open for two days.

All in all it was a great experience. I will definitely go again. As a matter of fact, I already have. Kansas City Chief, Blackjack and I cashed in that raincheck to see upstairs that following Sunday Funday. We had drinks upstairs with the bartender who was easy on the eyes, but needed a refresher course on mixology. Yes, cutie a Greyhound is made with vodka AND grapefruit. He was nice though.

I highly recommend Ulah Bisto to the local neighboorhood folk, I discourage the suburban weekend warriors (Mary Rice excluded) and the Hill interns. We want this place for ourselves.

This place gets 6 out of 7 Jacks.

They're Heeereee!!

A Special Friend and I thought it would be fun to venture to Target on Opening Day. Most of the isles were fully stocked and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Which is usually the case there. As I was already thrilled to be there, you could imagine my elation when I saw that not only can you buy your necessities there, you can also buy GROCERIES; milk, eggs, cheeses, etc. I know you can find these in other Targets in the area, and yes Giant is across the street, but this one is in here in town and it's well supplied with several different varieties!!

While it was exciting to be a part of the newness. It was really no different from shopping in any retail establishment on a weekend afternoon, crowded isles, groups of teenagers and screaming toddlers. Good luck to those of you that venture there on Saturday for the Grand Opening.

DJ Skittles, have fun when the Best Buy opens.

Dance Party at 1532

Someone that lives here may be in trouble. Sorry Blackjack

Shame

While The District and RJ may have tried to break a record of 18 bars tonight. I was forced into the Lucky Bar by rogue 'Fish employees. I really hope I wasn't like these fools when I was 25 and drunk. Wait have I met me?
