Ten Years of Luv

Since some of you are anticipating an update of the Anniversary Party this weekend, I am taking it upon myself to give you all an abridged account. I would hate to take away from The District's thunder but people are anxiously awaiting a recount of the events and I hate to disappoint. It was truly a fantastic party. Much Thanks to Rita Jean for putting it all together. And props, too baby for putting yourself on lockdown a couple times in order to make it all happen. Sister Disco, we won't mention the grocery store adventure where you all ended up on the news.

Even with my prolific creative writing skills (according to BK DM). I am unable to convey the love, the happiness, the togetherness and the vast friendshipness that the weekend exuded. So, I will just point out a few highlights:

Friday Night The District and I waited at the P-Rat for the HottBeef and Baby Lisa as they drove through a nasty snowstorm in PA to get here. It was great to see them at 2:30am and I'm sure the last thing they wanted was a drink after their ordeal, but... When in Rome, Right?

I got stuck working so I was unable to assist Rita Jean with her pre-gala preparations; trust me she did fine all by herself. For the party, The District asked me to be the "photographer" (for lack of a better term). I was happy to do it, but since I lack that "eye", it just meant that I would snap away and hope that I would produce a good picture or two out of a hundred.

Everyone who was anyone or who knew anyone on U Street showed up. We had Pittsburgh peeps, OH peeps, even those from SE trekked all the way across the River to be a part of the event. Holla J to the C. We missed those folks that didn't make it from Columbus, oh well, maybe we'll see ya'll at the 20 year.

Once the party got started, TD and Hellen Bed got many wonderful gifts wrapped in Tin (Reynold's Wrap Foil). Then people were invited to toast the happy couple. Many happy wishes were blessed and The District thanked everyone and made a speech about the details of how they met. Cute story about TD writing his number down in a matchbox, tucking it away in a cigarette box and HB
throwing it away. TD went to the trash, retrieved the empty cigarette box with the matchbook in it and let HB know that he just threw away "a good time" [sic] TD went on to recreate the moment and instead of a matchbox, HB pulled out a string of PLATINUM RINGS!!! Yes ladies and gentleman, Baby Boy finally got his jewelries!! and let me tell you Friends, there was not a dry eye in the house. I'm actually tearing up just writing this.

After that lovely ceremony, it was just your standard get together; everyone leaves the party with the free booze and decides that they need to go to a bar and drink more shots, of course! Since we all know that "Last Call" is only a suggestion, we all head to RJ's for more drinks. This is where someone decides to "give back" all the vodka he drank and deposited everything on RJ's 600 Thread Count sheets. Cranberry, Pasta and all!! Needless to say, the party was over.

FFWD: Brunch at Chimney Fall's for the out of towners. DJ Skittles made his tasty breakfast casserole and biscuits and gravy. Why we don't do this more often, I just don't know. Hint, hint. After a tasty meal, the HottBeef Clan left and I got sad. That was ok, cause then RJ's VA friends sent him a limo so him and his Bi-BF could join them on their porn tour. I caught a ride in the limo and took pics of all the goodies that they brought with them. Just think, VA suburbian women in their 40's riding around town with sex toys and bar hopping. Wait, I probably shouldn't judge, as that may be me in a few years; if not next weekend.

All in all, it was a great time. Thanks Friends for a great time and Congratulations on your 10 years together. May you have many Blessed and happy more.

I Heart You Both,

VB

Baby Lisa Made It to DC!

Baby Brother, Other Brother and Baby Lisa finally made it to DC despite the ice storm. I'm so happy to have them here. They are going to be tourists tomorrow and they will let their hair down at the 10 year Anniversary Party tomorrow. Consider yourselves warned.

February Debauchery

As promised, here is my account of the weekend:
(I have included an abridged slideshow of the events, to see all pics click here)
Friday Night:
The Original Glamazon and her man Smiley came into town. She was looking forward to going to the 80's Dance Party at El Gato Negro. So I left my comfy barstool at the P-Rat to meet them. There was a LINE outside, which I normally don't wait in lines, but it's The OG so I decided to put my standards aside. Meanwhile, Motorcycle who feels the same way about lines is on his way to El Gato and he and I are simultaneoulsy texting about how vexed we are. Fifteen minutes later I get inside only for them to tell me that they were leaving because the party was sold out and the Bridge and Tunnelers were over crowding the place. Ugh.
Kansas City Red suggested we go to Bar Pilar, yeah cause that's gonna be different. We ended up getting a place to sit and drinks in a timely manner, so I finally calmed down. Motorcycle and Smiley finally met face to face and we all got to catch up and tell old T Street stories.

Saturday:
The big day. Blackjack's birthday party is tonight and The Boston Steamer is supposed to roll into town at 5:30pm. The Mexican and I go to PentaGhetto City because I decide I need a dress to wear to the party. I got nada, but we did go to Taco Bell so that didn't make the trip a complete waste of time.
FFWD 5:30pm: The Boston Steamer arrives and wants to go bar crawl on Chinablock. I can't meet them because I have to get ready for the party. I'll see them there then.
7:00pm The party starts and as people start to arrive and bring the suggested gift, unbeknownst to him, of a bottle of Jack. By the time the 3rd bottle arrived Blackjack got a little concerned and said "Am I that predictable?" I let him in on the secret. Boy was he relieved.
The party was great, The Dazzling Doctor Gourmet made a Red Velvet Cake, Sophia made delicious phyllo dough sausage concotions and Cat Lady brought some yummy sea bass ceviche.
Kansas City Red hired The Ugly Genius to be Bartender/Dealer. The boy makes a mean drink, but his dealer skills might just need a little work. I got distracted to another conversation, so I gave DJ Skittles my chips and he won me a nice piece of change.
Final tally of bottles was 14 this does not include the bottles already consumed, so let's give it an even 17.
4:00am Cabs don't come to Truxton Circle very often, so we finally lost steam and Motorcycle gave me, Biochem and The Ugly Genius a ride home. Need sleep. Have to wake up early for noon Brunch tomorrow.

Sunday:
We know what that means. Started Brunch at our new fave spot Vinoteca. The reservation was for noon, but with the previous night's evening some people got a slow start. I was the first to arrive. The first thing I see when I walk in the door is The Riggins' at the bar. They spent the night in Annapolis without the kids so they were in a Good Mood. Just what I need first thing in the morning.

Sometimes service can be a bit slow when it comes to drinks, so I got proactive and I ordered two bottles of champers and a small carafe of OJ for Make Your Own Mimosas!!!
After brunch, the next logical stop is Solly's for a little game of Buck Hunter. The District was home dealing with an angry G.I. Tract but he showed up long enough to say hi. Hellen Bed joined us for a fun filled afternoon.

An omelette can only sustain one for so long, so we took BoSox to Stoney's for a Grilled Cheeses Sammich. Stoney's opened the upstairs but no one was going up there, so Rockstar ShelleyShell offered to buy us shots if we go upstairs and keep her man company. None of us are going to turn down a free shot, whether we need it or not. And Trust, we did NOT need it. Sophia and Mile joined us as well as Dags and Mary Rice. This, my friends, is where chimneys started to fall. Casualties: BoSox, The Mexican, Kansas City Red and Blackjack.
We headed back to U Street to the P-Rat for a quick drink. Axis is right next door, so why not stop in for a quick one? This is right around the time someone 'stole' Rita Jean's Burberry scarf.

Soldiers left standing: Vergie, Rita Jean, Kitsy O'Reiley, BK DM, DJ Skittles, Sister Disco, Dags, Mary Rice, Pretty Boy Floyd and I think Hellen Bed (For those of you I missed, please forgive me, it gets fuzzy right about now).

MIA: 8-Mile

Well the bars are still open so why bother to go home now? Let's go full circle and head back to Solly's!! (Man, I'm stupid sometimes). Enter chimneys. Officer Wilson was there so Rita Jean tried to file a police report for his stolen $270 Burberry scarf. (Hold on, I have to stop laughing)

Wait, LMAO still!!

Now that I think about it some more ROTFL

Whew, that was a good one. My stomach hurts

The night is finally coming to an end. By end, I mean it's last call so there is no more booze to be had. Thank Heaven!! So we head to 7-11 and see the infamous Miss P. Rita and BK DM pour me into a cab and they head to some gawd awful carryout. What a great day.

It was great to see The Boston Steamers, The Original Glamazon and Smiley. I wish The District could have been there, although that might have meant someone was going to jail. Apparently, we collectively tried to kill BK DM. If The District had shown up, I'm pretty sure we would have succeeded.

Oh, Rita's scarf wasn't stolen, it was on his kitchen table. Found by The District this morning.

Best Dishes

What a great weekend. A birthday party, friends in town and a Sunday Funday that trumps all others. Once I get my head straight or at least eat something with tons of grease, I will give you a complete update.

In the meantime, it gives me great pleasure to welcome a good friend into the wonderful world of blogging. That pretty face you see above that succulent Red-Velvet Cake is the author of RSVPtoRajeev. He will be taking us through his culinary adventures (i.e. dinner parties that he doesn't invite me to;) and lavish galas with his A-List Gays. Some of his credits include a camouflaged groom's cake, decadent house made hot chocolate and a competitor in Tin Chef.

Without further adieu, please give a round of applause to the next Barefoot Contessa, The Dazzling Dr. Gourmet PhD!!!

The Gift Mantle So Far

Talk about a well stocked bar...

IT'S ON!!

BlackJack's 35th BlackJack Jack Daniel's party has begun. The theme is obviously a casino night, the suggested gift for those who feel they need to bring one, is a bottle of... you guessed it, Jack! Stay tuned for pics of the gift table.

Single Awareness Day 2K8

Another Single Awareness Day has finally passed us by. Thank Jeebus it is over. 8 Mile got herself a dozen roses from her man AND a bouqet of flowers from another boy just cause she's hot like that. MeiLing #2 got a dozen and a half roses from her man in Africa AND this lovely bag of treats from Motorcycle. I don't particularly need a gift but if anybody feels so inclined I'm in the market for Apple Bottom Jeans and a lotto ticket.

The Every One is a Critic Corner

One of my favorite things to do is go out to a new restaurant and view life from the other side of the table. Something I don't do nearly enough. I promise you I'm not a foodie, my palate is too simple for that. However, I do like to share my experience with anyone who will listen. That being said, here is my first restaurant review:

RJ and I ventured out to Marvin for dinner this evening. (Picture not available, It was way to cold for me to stand out there and t
ake a picture) I will say that the bartender was a sweetie. Sweetie, so much that he almost opened a bottle of Tattinger sparkling wine which is NOT sold by the glass. He quickly realized his mistake and poured me a glass of house sparkling 'Brut' which was by no means dry.

We were guided to our table by a stoic hostess who almost sat us at a dirty table. Rita was immediately offended and asked to
be taken to a completely different table. Once we were settled in, the server came over 5 minutes later and told us about the origin of the restaurant; Named after Marvin Gaye, a son of DC, he spent time in Belgium to record "What's Goin' On" So the menu is a Soul Food/Belgian combination. I know, I thought it was odd too, and no, collard greens and pirogies do not mix.

The decor is of a very dark pub, black walls, mirrors and small cherry tables. Servers are doned in all black and are friendly to patrons, but not necessarily to their support staff.

RJ and I deciede to share two different appetizers; Shrimp and Grits and Ribs. The 4 medium sized shrimp were served atop a delicous creamy grit mixture. Opposite that was the Rib app course. 4 cuts of beef ribs, alternately stacked atop each other with sauce to cover up the char on the outer crust of the meat.

Entrees consisted of Braised Short Ribs with mashed potatoes, carrots and turnips and a Pork Shank with lentils and haricot verts ( for those of us to like to keep it real, haricot verts is a fancy name for thin green beans). Both dishes were a little on the salty side (which says alot coming from this saltaholic) The lentils were cooked with bacon and most likely finished with butter. RJ's tender short ribs were reminiscant of pot roast which were complimented by a technical recipe of mashed poatoes. The pork shank was quite similar to the ribs in that it was just short of well done. We decided not to stick around for desert.

This place gets 2 out of 7 Jacks

My New Girl Crush

Sunday Funday started at The P-Rat. I know, I know, I'm holding my head down in shame. But some good has come of this. I met my girl Esperanza this weekend, she's two cup sizes larger and ten times funnier and way hotter than yours truly.

She hits bitches with bottles. How hot is that!?

New York Giants SB XLII

Giants win! I lose 40 bucks but it was so worth it. This is Happy O texting BoSox consoling her on her loss. How's that Bandwagon feel now? At least the commercials were good.

4th Quarter

I feel dirty. If the Pats win due to the score, I get 40 bucks. If it's any concelation (sp?) I decided to go Giants.

3rd Quarter Report

There wasn't one because there are technical difficulties sending stuff out.

Best Quote so far: "smell my finger" from Pinnochio to Mango RE: hand soap

End of 2nd Quarter

It's nearing Halftime. Dags made it to the end of 2nd Quarter before stating in a gruffy voice "It's time to get some wine!"

Angry O just won his pool and he's trying to act modest.

Best quote so far: "Dear God did you see the PRat commercial?" The Mexican via sattelite RE: Doritos commercial.

Ok. I'm going to take Dags lead and go for the Old Standby No 7 myself.

1st Quarter Update

It's the end of the 1st Quarter. Angry O'Reilly is upset that he lost the first round of the football pool he started to Rita Jean. Best quote so far: "Is the Super Bowl being blogged?" God Bless you Big T Dog.

Ooh Chili Cook Off Starting. Gotta go...

Happy Super Bowl Sunday!!

This Sunday is different than most. It's a Special Sunday very close to my heart. It's Super Bowl Sunday!!! A day that I cherish almost as much as Christmas. Not because of the game, usually, my teams don't make it this far any way, but because of the gathering of friends, family, food and drink that make SBS without all the holiday stress.
This year I truly don't care for either team, much to the chagrin of my Bandwagon Patriot Fan, Bosox. Yeah, sister I'm callin' you out!! 'member last time I was rooting for the Pats and you claimed to have "No dog in this hunt"? My how times have changed.
I digress. So today Mr and Mrs Chimney Fall are hosting a Chili Cook-Off. I am bringing my Off The Hizzy Chili and will be competing with DJ Skittles and The Little Rican. I'm really excited. I finally finished my award winning creation at 2:30 this morning and wound down by watching "The Wire" until 6am On Demand (oh what a dangerous device).
Had brunch with The Mexican and sent her off to "the hill" with the pretentious politico wannabees. You will be missed friend.
Ok. I'm late. I'll keep you posted throughout the evening.

Apple Bottom Jeans (She Hits Da Floor)

You can't tell but The District's butt looks really hot in them jeans.
