The Man of the Hour

It's EB's 70th Birthday Party and he is having a blast. I'm pretty sure if he read this he wouldn't want me to divulge his age, but this is a pretty big milestone. This is the first time I've ever seen my old man smile. It's kinda cool :)

Is This Wrong?

Is it even more wrong that I am at a chain restaurant in an airport at 11 am? I just had a succulent chicken scallopine, a house favorite as denoted by a chef's hat in the margin of the menu; accompanied by a spicy medium bodied Chianti. This all served on an artistic Mediterranian style decorative plate with a linen napkin and a set of PLASTIC utinsils.

Introducing Executive DJ Puff Skittles

Congrats to the recently crowned DJ Puff Skittles. He got a promotion to the Exec level. I'm not entirely sure he's allowed to hang with the likes of us lower class folk. But we got him nonetheless. Hopefully he won't lose his job for being late tomorrow cause RJ is already trying to buy him shots.

Coror Nairs

She's got to break out the Industrial Grade Sandpaper for those puppies (and by puppies I mean full grown mangrels)

Warm Fuzzies :)

Just another long slow friday night at Leroy's Lobster Juke Joint. As I wind down from dealing with the self important B and T crowd I was surprised to see a warm smiling face walking towards me. It was RSVP! He stopped by to give me this tasty treat! I feel so loved.
Thanks Sugar. XOXO

Cardio Mix

The District and I started with Happy Hour. Since we are both behind on our cardio routines, we decided on a bicycle tour/crawl of Northwest. So far we had snacks, purchased toiletries, bike locks and stopped each other from choosing unecessary items at The Target. Not that you can't use anything they have.
5 "pit stops" later this has turned into our Cardio Mix of sorts...At least that is what we are telling our trainers tomorrow...

Leaving the Pahhk (sp?)

as my newly converted Boston friends would say (BKDM will correct my spelling I'm sure). I had a great time. RSVP might be confused as to our whereabouts but he can check Boston Steamer and Chimney Fall to reassure himself that we are all in the same location.

The Verge at the Nats Game

Nationals Park is the coolest place ever! When you get off the metro it totally stares you in the face! I love(hate) gentrification. Gotta go. I think someone scored a goal.

Happy Birthday Southern Belle!!!

Happy Birthday Southern Belle!! Sadly, I haven't been in touch with my friend as much as I would like to. But I wanted to give him a shout out anyway. In lieu of a light hearted biography, as I like to do for my peeps on their special day, I will strongly suggest that you make plans to see the play that he is directing this month. This production is near and dear to his heart and after over two years it is finally coming to fruition. It's called The Dining Room and it will be at the Foundry Theater the first, second and third week in May.

Saturday Afternoon at 1532

My first attempt at ribs was a success!! I finagled a Saturday night off from work so I coaxed Kansas City Chief and Blackjack to fire up the grill. Between the butcher at the Ghetto Giant, my Mom, Aunt and Dorthy from Kansas we had a lovely meal. I made spareribs with ho' made bbq sauce and 30 Minute baked beans. KCC supplied potato salad and the appetizer caprese salad and BJ made it a well balanced meal by providing us with grilled asparagus and brussels sprouts. It was a lovely collaboration between the 3 of us. We are now enjoying this great weather by revisiting a favorite pasttime...Stooping. I wonder what RSVP had for dinner.

Happy Birthday Baby Mama!!

Today is my favorite cousin's birthday. For those of you who don't already know, she is sister to Dog in a Bag
Proud mother of Baby Bubba (today is his Half Birthday) and future wife of Pappa Bubba.

She is also the owner of the 2nd awesomest dog in the world. Just to be clear, we all know the first awesomest dog is NOT a rat terrier.

Her likes: History Channel, Da Bears, Dixie Chicks, karaoke and Taco Pizza

Her dislikes: Onions

Happy Birthday Baby Mama!! I'm proud to have you as a cousin your face always makes me smile. I Love You Girl.

Welcome Pope Benedict XVI

Every once in a while I get an urge to reflect on the random things in life. Today is one of those days. So this morning as I get ready for my measly 3 mile run, nowhere close to The District's 12.8 mile run I see that the mindlessness of the Today Show with Hoda Kotb and Kathie Icky Gifford (where the eff did she come from? But that's another post) is preempted with the White House Welcoming Ceremony for the Pope.
Anthems are played, prayers are sung and gratuitous speeches (Thanks G-Dub) are made. While all of these 'pleasantries' are exchanged, I go on my run.
FFWD 4.5 hours later (including the 36:07min that I ran) to me studying at my neighborhood coffee shop. As I sit outside working on electron configurations, I see cops posted at various intervals along Rhode Island Avenue. Ahh, I think to myself, this must be part of the route His Holiness will take to one of his many visits throughout DC.
Living in this place for as long as I have, I have seen a multitude of motorcades, all of them pretty much the same; Black limousines, giant SUV's, police motorcycles and cars with sirens blaring and lights flashing. The Pope's motorcade will probably not be much different, with the exception of the Popemobile.
Then it hits me; I live in a great, powerful, historical city where many decisions about this country and other countries are made, confidential conversations are held, and people with power (actual power, not the day in and day out douchebags that work downtown and on the hill that think they really make a difference, I digress) visit on a regular basis. At this moment, there are thousands of people that have taken the day off of work to get up at the crack of dawn, gather their families together, and travel far and wide all in hopes to get a glimpse of a man who they deem as holy. This is an AMAZING place, The Pope, is in our country on his birthday and he is no more than a 5 mile distance away from me at all times!!! And to think, I take this all for granted...
Wow! The Pope is in town!! I need to get with the program! Realize my priorities in life and FOCUS!! It is 3:45pm. I need to run to the bank, go get Diet Pepsi cause I only got one left, and I need to get ready for work!! Eff all this noise, I gotta go...

Guilty Pleasure. Oh the Shame...

Well Kids, I'm pretty sure by now that my ghetto card is suspended, but after this it will probably definitely be REVOKED!! Every once in awhile when I need a laugh in the privacy of my own Hobbit Hole, I resort to the monstrosity of this totally crude character. She definitely sets the race movement back about 80 years. But she's still damn funny. Call it self-hatred, call it a poor taste in humor, call it what you will cause it's probably true; either way, I get a great laugh and I would like to share with you the gross inappropriateness that is Shirley Q. Liquor . (NOTE: The following video does not in anyway reflect the opinions or values of VB inc. Any statement made by Ms. S.Q.L. is entirely independent and (hopefully) for entertainment purposes only. (Or, could this be me in 30 years, Who can know?)

Oh and please, don't miss the BONUS opportunity to meet her sister Rita J, errhrmm, I mean, Betty Butterfield. You might find it a surprising likeness to someone you very well know.
