Vergie and Cousin Harold's White Castle Adventure

You've probably seen this picture on TheDistrict's blog or if you are from the midwest you have probably experienced this repast (pictured above). However, there is one thing missing. Can you guess what it is? I'll give you a hint, look at the time stamp. Yes folks you are correct , Alcohol!!
After a 6am flight to the Windy City, sans sleep and breakfast, my hungry cousin from The Hills picked me up and we went in search of food. We saw the sign and in unison said those sweet words that many people salivate over after leaving the clubs at 3am. You probaly know how this is going to end. I did. We were excited and scared at the same time. White Castle? Sober? Let's give it a shot. "Hilda" passed the greasy bag throught the drive thru window and we were on our way.
Fast Forward: The picture above is about as far as I got before Cousin Harold and I rebagged it, laughed at each other and took it to the dumpster outside.
Life Lesson #8746: That place is only busy after midnight for a reason.

Happy Friendship Day

So as I was performing the most recent yet probably outdated interweb craze: Twittering. I saw that one of the Trending Topics was Friendship Day. So I decided to research. What an innovative and wonderful concept. It is the first Sunday of August and it has apparently been around since 1935. You know what? I like this day. I like it alot. I have always been proud of the friends that I've made with people and although I may not be the best "keeperintoucher" my peeps are always in my heart.
My Aunt and Uncle are in town and I just have happened to plan dinner with friends and family this Sunday (today). I am so excited!!
Ok I said all that, to say, I am humbled, honored and blessed to have all of you in my life. I couldn't ask for better friends and frankly, I don't want anyone but you all anyway. We all have our special and crazy moments and we all accept and support each other for them, which is why I love the lot of you. Thank you for being a friend and you are quite welcome for me being yours.

This might be my new favorite holiday, next to Christmas of course.

Exciting News: Dog in a Bag is Expanding!!

What a lovely surprise. I check my facebook account just to see the daily Status Updates and lo' and behold I see that my lovely cousin is bravely branching out into the saturated blogosphere.

As you know, her first venture was to sell high-end DogBags to people with little dogs with high-end attitudes. While she is still trying to get that off the ground, she is resourcefully using scrap material from her high-end fashion client, Mona Von Botoxenburg. Quality goods straight from the sweatshops of China, no middleman here!!

Most of us don't have Little Dogs, but we know people with Little Dogs. Word of Mouth is the best advertisement, so feel free to pass this on to your petite canine lover friends.
So without further adieu, allow me to introduce to you the PETSHIONISTA blog!!! Take a look and peruse her fine quality handmade products (by South American sweatshops not Chinese sweatshops. We gotta keep it in the Hemisphere, know what I'm sayin'? Westsiiide) at Teleasha by Telicia!

RIP Michael Jackson

What a tradgedy! Michael Jackson is no longer with us. He's had his troubled times, but he will always have a crucial role in my development in puberty; and not in the way you think. Middle School created and demanded that you choose a side: Prince or Michael Jackson. You could pick your battle at Spencer Gifts, where you purchased/stole, your buttons, t-shirts and posters of choice. I ain' t gonna lie, I had more Prince than Michael Jackson buttons. And yes, I saw Purple Rain first. But that didn't mean I didn't still have a spot for MJ in my heart.

As I grew up, Michael Jackson was a talented Black man, and in my heart and mind he always will be. Through his music he blended harmonies and genres, therefore, blending people together. I encourage you all to remember Michael in a way that made you the most happy. I know I will. His performance in The Wiz is one of the ways he made me most happy.

A "Special" Birthday

I spent Birthday Weekend in the woods with many of my good friends. I was in a bit of a rush as we were leaving so I forgot my camera, thus I had to leave photo duty to Chimney Fall Cat. Hopefully she got some good pics. Campfire Cookoff was the first night. Secret Ingrident: GRITS!! Chef BlackJack and Rajun' Cajun battled it out. Chef BlackJack worked all his magic over the campfire, while the Rajun' Cajun concocted most of his culinary goodness over the Coleman Camp Stove and a fancy shmancy smoker. Result: The Rajun' Cajun came out with an upset victory over Chef BlackJack. A great effort on both parts and there were many full bellies left to sit around the fire and savor the competition.
The river was flowin' and so was the booze. It was a wonderful time. Imagine my astonishment when I came home and received this descriptive card in the mail from my Favorite Aunt and Uncle:

Just sayin'

Out to Pasture II

Remember that Suckling Pig I bought awhile back (see previous post)? Well here it is after 8 hours roasting on the campfire this weekend in the Shenendoah Valley. Looks delicious right? I can't really tell you how it tasted but KCC and Sister Disco can, as they were the ones that devoured it at 4am with nothing but their fingers and Jack Daniels Barbeque Sauce.
Good times were had by all. Can't wait for Round 3 in two weeks.

Love and Respect your Butcher

I had the bright idea to save money by getting a suckling pig from Iron Chef Hank and butchering it myself. 1 hour and 45 bucks later, KCC and I ended up with 1.7 pounds of tenderloin and a tiny rack of ribs. I'll leave my meat cutting to the butcher, thank you very much.
We have front and hind quarters left to roast but I'm not entirely optimistic.

Happy St. Patrick's Day

What a great day to celebrate some saint that the Irish don't even care about.  But this guy is actually pretty cool.  If that face isn't an excuse to drink today, then I don't know what is.  Happy Birthday Dancin'!

My PEEPS

My friend KCC thought it would be funny to buy me Peeps. Blackjack said "either she will love them or hate them." He was right. Those things are gross.

Lone Peep Ranger. No one wanted to take him on.

It was tough to get anyone to actually eat a Peep. We only got 2 out of 12 and one was not from this continent, so we tricked him. Ha! So the rest we just played with.

Relaxing Jack bath.

Booze, Bags and Brunches

Wow Peeps, I didn't realize how long it's been since I posted anything.  I'm so sorry for being out of touch.  I feel bad because I purposely bought a camera in order to make more dynamic posts and here I am not posting at all.
Well, let's see, since we got a new president I went through a self-imposed rehab, started running on a regular basis, hit an all time high/low at Target and managed to lose a Tin Foil Chef competition.  I use the term 'lose' loosely.
REHAB:  Due to my crazy antics over the holiday season, I told myself and others, that I was going to do a self imposed rehab (SIR), no drinking for 28 days.  Since this month is the shortest month of the year, it would be the perfect time.  And I am happy to say I successfuly made it through.  Thank goodness Sundays don't count in self imposed rehab.  Neither does an occasional Friday or Saturday, oh and a $1 beer Monday (blame DC Special Friend for that one).  Hey, I didn't say 28 days in a row!

The first week of SIR was tough, not so much that I wasn't drinking, but that I was not allowing myself to go out, thus depriving myself of a social outlet.  That first Friday was a nailbiter, What was I missing? Who was doing what? What if something caught on fire?  I knew in my head the answers to my questions were absolutely no one, nothing and just wait; but I am used to witnessing the nothingness firsthand.   I soon found out that sitting on ones hands all evening has its benefits.  I woke up bright and early that Saturday morning and allowed The District to convince me to go on a quick run.  What I didn't realize was that when he said quick, he really meant a tour of Northwest DC.  I'm glad I did it though because he got me through my mental block of not being able to run for more than 3 miles.  I think we actually did 5 that day.  I rewarded myself with a pair of running shoes from Fleet Feet, owned by Mayor Adrian Fenty's mama and daddy.

TARGET:  By not going out I knew I was going to save alot of money.  I did. However, I spend it all the first week at Target.  I was due for a trip to my favorite store, so I Zip Car'd it on over to Potomac Yard.  I walked in the doors grabbed a red cart and I can't tell you what happened next.  What I can tell you is I-LOST-MY-MIND!!  2 hours and 358 dollars later I drove home in a Target induced high and still can't tell you what I bought.  But, hey, it's Target so you know you're gonna use it eventually.

TIN FOIL CHEF:  I also managed to compete in a Tin Foil Chef competition against KCC , see RSVP for details.  The loss was the closest in TFC history and now that KCC has retired he appointed two new competitors.  The next morning/afternoon we had a wonderful consolation brunch that Ponchatrain Pete made the next day with the leftovers. Pictured below: P2's Duck Breast Monte Christo, Chorizo Pig in a Blanket and Blackjack's amazing Quiche.

So that about sums it up kids, hopefully there will be more posts this month as the weather warms up and I get outside more.
Oh and for those who are keeping track,
POINTS PUSHERS UPDATE:  KCC is down 20 pounds.  Me? Yeah. Still the same exact weight as when I started this damned program.  Oh well, the cooking part is fun.

A Very Special Day

It's the start of a new year and the beginning of another one for our Special Friend!! Happy Birthday Sister. We've mastered the grocery store, urban camping and bicycle accidents (Thank God for helmets!) I look forward to many more debaucherous adventures this year. U Street, consider yourselves warned.

How to Make a Sister Cry:

After years of hearing me bitch and bitch and bitch, my very good friends got together and purcahsed an item that I have coveted for the longest time. A Kitchen-Aid Mixer! I do not deserve this and I do not deserve such wonderful friends that would bestow me with this fantastic gift. I cry as I write this. Thank you all. I love you all the most and I am super grateful to have such loving people in my life! I apologize in advance for the WW unfriendly products that will come your way. And I apologize even more in advance that I now have the tools to beat KCC in the next Tin Foil Chef Competition. Bring it!
